Make an Impact to Last a Lifetime

By Krista Kay, Alpha Pi ’02, Director of Leadership Advancement

The wait is finally over!

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to join us at TC Howe High School in Indianapolis, Indiana for the 2013 Alternative Break Project.

This May, embark on a week-long journey to live the Tripod and make an impact in the lives of students that will last a lifetime.

Meet and spend time with Brothers from all over the nation, as you work to create a college and career resource center for the students of TC Howe High School. These resource rooms, designed as dorm rooms, will allow students to get a feel for what college is like and show what future opportunities are available to them.

Want to see your college represented in the resource room? Create a college kit to send to TC Howe:

  • Collect information about your university from the Admissions office
  • Gather pennants, magnets, stickers and other university-related items that can be hung on the walls or throughout the room
  • Take photos of your dorm room or other places around campus

Contact me at tfa@phisigmapi.org for more info!

Throughout the week, we’ll have the opportunity to meet with Teach For America to learn more about what educational inequity looks like for Indianapolis and to answer any questions you may have. We’ll also have the opportunity to spend time in the classroom, shadowing Teach For America corps members and working with students.

And what trip to Indianapolis would be complete without a visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Lucas Oil Stadium, or one of the many shopping galleries? We’ll also have time to explore the city a little before we head home!

So apply today to become a 2013 Alternative Break Project corps member. Space is limited!
