“I wanted to aid a great cause in hopes of defeating a terrible disease and to support my friends in Omega Phi Alpha with their advocacy for St. Baldrick’s.” – Matt Frazier (Beta Phi Chapter ‘15)
In April, two Brothers in the Beta Phi Chapter (Western Kentucky University) started showing off a new look: bald heads! It was more than just a fashion statement though and the fact that a study says guys with shaved heads seem tougher. Matt Frazier (Beta Phi Chapter ‘15) and Anthony Gross (Beta Phi Chapter ‘14) shaved their heads for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, an organization whose mission is to raise awareness and funds to cure childhood cancer by supporting cancer research and fellowships. The event was hosted by Omega Phi Alpha, a Western Kentucky University service Sorority.
Together, Matt and Anthony solicited help from family, friends, the community and Phi Sigma Pi Brothers to raise money for the event with the promise of going bald the day of. In a few short months, the Brothers both surpassed their $300 goals, collectively raising over $1,450. The 22 Member Initiate class also helped raise money for the Brothers by hosting a bake sale that contributed over $270!
As promised, the day of the event the hair came off and another child is getting the treatment he/she needs to beat cancer!
