Newly inducted Alpha Eta Brothers are ready to play!

Kick the Silence (KTS) is the Alpha Eta Chapter’s (University of Delaware) spring philanthropy event. This annual kickball tournament benefits Phi Sigma Pi’s National Philanthropy, Teach For America.

Brothers, as well as individuals from other student organizations, formed teams of 7-12 people. Eight kickball teams registered for the tournament.

This year the goal was to raise over $1000, and not only did they reach that goal, they surpassed it by raising over $1100 at the event.

A lot of work went on to plan the event. They utilized Committees to help advertise for the event, collected donations for raffles and went to restaurants to get donations. They also worked with their University administration and Phi Sigma Pi’s National Staff to make sure everything was ready for the big day.

Also, they took advantage of connections with sponsors. One Committee Member even had a friend who worked at Rita’s Italian Ice. Thanks to that connection, they were able to have a bucket of frozen ice that was the perfect cool treat on that hot day of the kickball tournament.

Before the event they also held “Pie a Bro” where Brothers auctioned themselves to be pied in the face by the highest bidder. No fruit pies were hurt in the process, just whip cream pies, people. This event alone raised over $250. They had music playing, pizza, drinks and snacks. Who doesn’t love snacks!?

Everyone at the event had a great time while supporting a great cause.

What was your big philanthropy event this spring?
