Alumni Chapter Spotlight: NY Cares Day

NYMAAC NY Cares | Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity

Todd (friend) Courtney Pike (Beta Epsilon Chapter ’08), Kathryn McConnell (Gamma Phi Chapter ’07), Marissa Gernett (Alpha Pi Chapter ’08), Chris Costantino (Gamma Xi Chapter ’07) and Beth Walsh (Alpha Theta Chapter ’09).

The New York Metro Area Alumni Chapter submitted 24 hours to Hours of Hope after volunteering in New York Cares Day.

I’ve volunteered in schools before and can say the kids definitely notice and appreciate these efforts. Courtney Pike (Beta Epsilon Chapter ‘08)

5 Members (and a friend) gathered at the PS 161 Don Pedro Albizu Campos School, a K-8 school in West Harlem. For hours the team:

  • pulled weeds out of planters
  • cleaned up garbage off the ground
  • planted fresh, new bulbs for the spring
  • organized books in the school’s reading resource room

*New York Cares Day is a day of service for New York public schools (70 schools in five boroughs) where thousands of volunteers spend the day revitalizing school grounds, leading nutrition education activities with students, conducting job readiness seminars with community members and parents and more, engaging the entire school community to prepare for the school year ahead and kick off our year-round programming.

If you live in the New York City Area and would like to volunteer for the Spring New York Cares Day, you can find more information here.
