Hello, Phi Sigma Pi Chapter Members and Alumni! I am so excited to welcome you to the HOBY family.
By now, you’ve probably heard that Phi Sigma Pi recently selected HOBY as its new, national philanthropic partner. (You can view the official press release here.) If you’re wondering what that means, that’s where I come in. My name is Sunshine Navarro Shively (no, my parents weren’t hippies), and I am the partnership lead for HOBY.
As we explore and develop our partnership, there are a few things you should know off the bat. HOBY plans to have active engagement with Phi Sigma Pi. We won’t just ask you to do things for us – we also want to do things for you. We want our relationships to be reciprocal so both our organizations get the most out of this partnership. We want to showcase the best in both our organizations.
As your Fraternity’s ideal on Leadership states: Phi Sigma Pi provides the opportunity for students to gain core leadership skills to strengthen oneself; but then, just as importantly, how they apply that skill to pay it forward. Our goal is to help you fulfill this ideal with precisely what we already do at HOBY: provide unique leadership training to high school students.
Founded in 1958, HOBY started as an annual, one-day seminar in Los Angeles, California for sophomore boys and has grown by leaps and bounds into a nationally-recognized leadership program that has 10,000 students participating in one or more of its programs annually. HOBY currently has 71 domestic programs and three international programs for high school students and beyond. Learn more about HOBY programs at HOBY.org/programs.
Ready to get involved? There are many resources already available to you at phisigmapi.org/resources. Click on the HOBY folder and be sure to check out the document called “Ways to Support HOBY.” This is a good starting point from which you and your Chapter can get involved. You can also check out this map for a listing of all our HOBY programs and to connect with ones near you. Finally, revisit this blog starting January 12, 2016 (and every other week afterwards) to learn more about HOBY. I can’t wait for you to meet some of our outstanding Alumni and learn about their wonderful accomplishments since participating in HOBY.
You’ll be hearing more from me in the coming year. I invite you to reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org about anything HOBY- or Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.-related. On behalf of the HOBY staff and volunteers, we wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.
HOBY and Phi Sigma Pi are teaming up to bring you a Leadership in Action Lunch & Learn Webinar. It’s happening on February 3, 2016 at Noon EST. The topic: The Social Change Model & Leadership. RSVP here. Earn 8 points for participating.
