HOBY Happenings 2016

What’s happening? HOBY’s happening! Our National Philanthropy has some great programs planned for 2016 and we wanted to make sure that you don’t miss out on these opportunities to get involved with HOBY.

State Leadership Seminar (LS)
The Leadership Seminar is for high school sophomores who want to develop their leadership talents and become youth leaders in their communities. This dynamic 3-4 day seminar explores leadership from three perspectives (personal, group and societal) through fun and interactive workshops, activities and discussions. Seventy seminars will take place across the country, each weekend, between May and June 2016.  The $350 registration fee includes all training materials, meals and accommodations for the entire weekend, but excludes transportation to/from the seminar and any incidental spending money.

For questions and to register, contact Sunshine Navarro Shively at shivelys@hoby.org or 818-851-3980 x321.

Advanced Leadership Academy (ALA)
The ALA is a college-level program for high school juniors and seniors who want to enhance their leadership abilities to lead others for social change. Successfully completing this 5-day program (July 7-12, 2016 at the Lakeshore Campus of Loyola University Chicago) will allow participants to develop their own action plan for change and earn them one transferable college unit, which is included in the registration fee. The full registration fee ($1250) applies for registrations submitted on or after 3/1. A $100 deposit secures a spot and the fee for the Academy.

For questions, contact Vicki Ferrence Ray at ferrencerayv@hoby.org or 818-851-3980 x306.

International Tours Program to Europe (iTour)
This summer’s iTour partners with EF Tours to take high school students of all ages to explore historical and cultural landmarks in Europe. One of the biggest highlights of this program is participation in the 2016 Global Student Leaders Summit. This 2-day summit convenes students from around the world to address this year’s topic: Leveraging STEM to Protect Human Rights. From June 18-30, 2016, participants will explore the cities of London and Amsterdam to see national icons, like the London Eye, the BBC News Headquarters, the Anne Frank House and others. The program price of $5,710 includes airfare and transportation, accommodations, meals, entrance fees, a full-time tour director and more!

For questions, contact Cheryl Brenn at brennc@hoby.org or 818-851-3980 x309.
