Registration for the 2017 Alumni Convention is open! In the last #pspAC17 blog, we talked about all of the activities you have the opportunity to participate in. You may have noticed that it was missing one thing: food! We know that an important part of travel is food. That’s why we’ve planned some awesome dining experiences for our Alumni. This blog is all about the delicious food and meals that we will be enjoying together in Louisville, Kentucky from June 1 – 4, 2017.
AC17 Kick Off Dinner – Bluegrass Brewing Company
We’ll be kicking off Alumni Convention on Thursday night at in the heart of downtown Louisville. Bluegrass Brewing Company is situated in a historic building erected in 1880, which has been renovated and redesigned. Enjoy hearty food favorites at Louisville’s oldest microbrewery.
Friday Night – Louisville Belle River Boat Dinner Cruise
To board the Belle of Louisville is to do more than to see Louisville and the Ohio River from a unique perspective — it’s also to step into a piece of living American history. Built in 1914, the Belle of Louisville is the oldest operating steamboat in the United States and the oldest operating Mississippi River-style steamboat in the world. The Belle is on the national register of historic places and is designated a national historical landmark. Dinner on board the Belle is a truly unique dining experience. Dinner cruises feature a buffet, live entertainment or DJ service, plus narration of historical facts throughout the cruise.
Saturday Night – Troll Pub Under the Bridge
The Troll Pub is located on the site of the original Galt House hotel, built in 1834. After a fire ravaged the building in 1865, the Louisville and Nashville Railroad built its headquarters on the site. During this time, many Kentucky bourbon distilleries moved into other buildings on the block which is how it became known as Whiskey Row. The Pub was built using reclaimed remnants of original building materials and features a hickory bar and a hidden bookcase room. Just look for Louie the Troll proudly standing at the corner of 2nd and Washington streets, pointing you in the right direction!
Saturday’s lunch will be catered during the Kentucky Derby Museum & Churchill Downs Racetrack tour. Friday lunch will be on your own so you can explore the food of Louisville on your own accord!
