2017 Alumni Convention Recap!

Alumni Members from across the country attended the 2017 Alumni Convention in Louisville, Kentucky from June 1-4. Here were our top Alumni Convention Moments!

Louisville Slugger Museum
One of our first stops in Louisville was at the world famous, Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum where they have been making baseball bats since 1884! The Big Bat at the front entrance is the world’s largest baseball bat, weighing in at 68,000 pounds, towers 120 feet into the sky and is an exact replica of Babe Ruth’s bat. We first took a tour of the factory and saw the whole process of bat making, including the carving and wood burning of the iconic slugger logo. During the tour we saw the specialized machine that makes major league baseball players their customized bats to the width and dimensions of their choosing. After the tour we all received a mini bat of our own. Members explored Museum exhibits, including baseball stadiums made entirely out of legos!

Belle of Louisville Cruise
Members had the opportunity to tour Louisville from sea level! Friday night we boarded the Belle of Louisville Steamboat. Built in 1914, the Belle is a national historic landmark as the oldest, operating steamboat in the country. First, we enjoyed dinner onboard as we set off on our cruise down the Ohio River. Then we went up to deck to take in the sights and breeze of our trip. The best view was coming back into the city to see the sun setting behind the skyline and bridges.

Churchill Downs
A trip to Louisville would not be complete without a visit to the legendary Churchill Downs horse racing track. Of course we had to make sure we looked the part by trying on the unique derby hats at the Kentucky Derby Museum. Thanks to our tour guide, we learned about the history of the Kentucky Derby and some of it’s most famous winners. Even though we missed the derby by a couple of weeks, there was live racing going on that day! Our Members felt like VIPs in the Millionaires Row box, enjoying a buffet lunch and one of the best views of the races.

Member Bonding
The best part of Alumni Convention is being able to meet and bond with fellow Alumni Members from all across the country! We all had a great time getting to know one another and reconnecting with old friends!
